Abiquiu Reservoir

Abiquiu Reservoir is located in northern New Mexico, approximately 60 miles northwest of Santa Fe. It is situated in the scenic Chama River Valley near the small town of Abiquiu and is surrounded by the red rock formations and mesas of the Rio Chama Wilderness. The reservoir was created in 1963 by the construction of the Abiquiu Dam on the Rio Chama, primarily for irrigation and flood control purposes. As a result of its scenic location and recreational opportunities, the Abiquiu Reservoir has become a popular destination for boating, fishing, camping, hiking, and picnicking. The reservoir also serves as an important breeding and foraging habitat for many species of birds and other wildlife
